Skye Cleary: Philosophy of Love for Everyday Life, online via zoom
Course description: What is love? To what extent can we choose to love? Is true harmony possible? What is the relationship between love and sex, lust, friendship, marriage, and the meaning of life? How do ethics, morals, and culture influence how we love? This course will explore such questions by drawing upon existential approaches to love—with a special focus on the philosophies of Søren Kierkegaard, Simone de Beauvoir, and Jean-Paul Sartre who were interested in lived experiences—in order to explore the nature, meaning, and practical challenges of loving in our everyday lives.

Cancellation policy: If APPA cancels the course, program fees will be 100% refunded. If a participant cancels their participation before the course starts, $200 will be refunded. If a participant cancels their participation during the course, the refund will be $200 minus $40 per week of attendance.

Cleary, Ph.D., is a philosopher and author of How to Be Authentic: Simone de Beauvoir and the Quest for Fulfillment, Existentialism and the Authentic Life, Existentialism and Romantic Love, and co-editor of How to Live a Good Life. Skye teaches at Columbia University, is a Thinking Partner with Philosophy at Work, and is a certified fellow with the American Philosophical Practitioners Association.
