Description

In APPA, I'm a VP, Board Member, Level 2 Certified Philosophical Counselor, Certified Socratic Dialogue Facilitator, Certified Philosophical Consultant, Member of the International Editorial Board, and Co-director of the Board of Examiners, with 2 years training and 1 year client service at the Gestalt Center for Psychotherapy and Training, NYC, a tenured Professor of Philosophy (CUNY), Meditation Instructor for the Vervaeke Foundation, a multiple decades Meditation and Yoga Instructor, and 4th-degree blackbelt. I've taught philosophy, meditation, and yoga, on campus and in the community, for decades, seen clients as a Philosophical Practitioner, a Gestalt Psychotherapist (under supervision), and a Yoga Therapist. I've conducted many Socratic Dialogues, Philosophy Cafes, Meditation groups and series, Yoga classes and workshops, and related Philosophical Practice sessions (Philosophical Fellowship, Lectio Divina, Deep Philosophy, etc.) in a wide variety of venues, to thousands of clients and students.

I customize an eclectic variety of Philosophical Counseling services, using a whole-person (or group) approach addressing beliefs, views, perspectives, values, experiences, emotions, desires, goals, choices, identity, narrative, etc., primarily through Socratic/Philosophical Dialogue, but employing a variety of multiple modalities as they seem appropriate or useful within the context of a particular session. The immediate goal is resolving the present issue; the greater goal is cultivating the client's inner philosopher.

I have training in Gestalt, Philosophical Counseling, Socratic Dialogue, Meditation, Yoga, and Spirituality (having studied with Ram Dass and other noted spiritual figures). I've been in Gestalt Therapy as a client on and off since 2003 and have been teaching Philosophy for over 30 years and Meditation and Yoga for over 20 years. I specialize in philosophical, spiritual, and existential indigestion. My main philosophical research interests revolve around exploring consciousness, mental freedom, mindfulness meditation, free will, mental causation, and the relationships between them, as well as the philosophy of religion, philosophy of spirituality, ethics, contemplative philosophy, and contemplative practices.
