Description

David C. Malloy, PhD possesses extensive expertise in the practical application of philosophy, ethics, and values. He is a Consulting Associate at Praxis Consulting Inc., specializing in leadership/organizational philosophical counselling, educational services/training, and public speaking engagements geared toward managers and senior executives.
Dr. Malloy served as President at King’s University at Western from 2019 to 2024. Prior to this role, he spent 30 years both as a faculty member and administrator at the University of Regina, holding the roles of Associate Dean in the Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research, Associate Vice-President (Research) and Vice-President (Research).
As a lecturer teaching undergraduate and graduate students in applied philosophy in health, business, and kinesiology, his approach has made philosophy practical and understandable to his students.
As a consultant, he helps leaders and organizations use philosophy as a necessary tool to make rational, ethical, and value-based decisions. His book, Golfing with the Enlightened Dead, makes this exact point. In this book, a lone golfer meets various famous philosophers (Socrates, Aristotle, etc.) and discusses leadership ideas as they walk down fictional fairways. On each hole of the golf course, a different philosopher helps him better understand workplace dilemmas through their perspectives - more comprehensive and defendable choices result.
Dr. Malloy maintains an active research portfolio, focusing on applied philosophy in leadership and organisations. His interests include ethical decision-making, values, codes of ethics, existential hardiness, personhood, ethical climate/culture, and moral injury. During his academic career, he has published six books and 72 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to three book chapters and seven book reviews, given 98 conference presentations, and received more than $4.5 million in team and individual research grants. He has served as an adjudicator for both the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Dr. Malloy currently sits as a Director on the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences Board and is an associate faculty member of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy at Western University. He is an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Health Science at Western University, Canada, the Department of Philosophy at the University of Regina, Canada, the Research Institute of Multiculturalism and Applied Philosophy, Hunan University, China, and a Senior Researcher and Partner Director for the International Bioethics Research Centre of Shandong Province, China. He has been a fellow of the American Philosophical Practitioners Association - certified in individual and organisational philosophical consulting - since 2008.
